If you did not receive Friends of Calvert Library Books & Bubbly 2012 tickets in your stocking this year, you can still buy tickets at any Calvert Library location. Tickets will also be available at the Giant Book Sale January 12-14, at Calvert Library Prince Frederick. For $35 you will be supporting a great cause and having a lovely evening all at once. This event, held on Friday, January 27, 7-9pm at Calvert Library Prince Frederick, is an elegant evening with delicious food, great music, bubbly and other libations. Music will be performed by a talented group of musicians in an ad hoc band, “Beat the Reaper.” Michael May, David O’Brian, Glen Jenkins and Ken Hoffman perform an eclectic collection of 60’s through 90’s tunes. Special guest author Peter Abresch will do a brief reading from his most recent book that actually features a scene from a fictional Books & Bubbly.
As grants and other sources of funding have declined, Calvert Library has been grateful for support from their Friends. Recently, Friends made a $12,000 donation to the Calvert Library to supplement the budget for the purchase of books and audio visual materials. They have also provided funding and volunteer support for many of the youth events offered at Calvert Library such as the recent Gingerbread House Workshops, Kids Just Want to Have Fun, Teen and Tween events, Shenanigans and more.
