When we send our young men and women to war, they return to us forever changed by the experience. Are you a veteran with combat trauma? Do you know and love a veteran with combat trauma?

“The mental health of our troops is very much a national security issue,” says Dr. Elspeth Ritchie, a former military psychiatrist who held the top mental-health job in the Army.  “If we don’t take care of our veterans, people aren’t going to want to sign up and join the military.”

Meet Dr. Elspeth Cameron Ritchie at Calvert Library Southern Branch on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 3pm.  Col. Ritchie retired from the Army in 2010 after a distinguished career, culminating in a position as the Army’s top psychiatrist. She has written and lectured extensively on military mental health and women’s health issues. She is now the Chief of Mental Health for the Community Based Outpatient Clinics at the Wash VA. She frequently serves as an expert on military and veterans’ mental health issues.

She will present her most recent book, Intimacy Post-Injury: Combat Trauma and Sexual Health, and answer questions.  Other books include Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Related Diseases in Combat Veterans, Forensic and Ethical Issues in Military Behavioral Health and Women at War.  She has authored over 200 publications.  Combat trauma is treatable.  Come learn more.  Books will be available for sale and signing.
