Calvert Library Prince Frederick will be hosting close to 40 authors at their Author Festival on Saturday, May 31.  This is a great chance to check out a new genre, get some autographs, support your favorite authors and even learn a bit about the writing and publishing process.  Autographed books make great gifts for fellow book lovers!  And if you are an aspiring writer, this is the perfect opportunity to network and make those all-important connections.

Both writers and readers will enjoy the various presentations throughout the day.  Keynote speaker, Rick Campbell, author of  The Trident Deception will present, “A Dark Story with a Happy Ending.”  Campbell’s book has been hailed as the best submarine thriller since The Hunt for Red October.  Campbell started life as a military brat and his family eventually settled in Florida. After high school he attended the US Naval Academy and spent over thirty years in the Navy including serving on four nuclear submarines, working at the Pentagon and as part of the Undersea Weapons Program Office.  His book reflects his knowledge of submarine warfare and also hooks the reader in a story with espionage, moral dilemmas, and considerations of what might happen when a father is ordered to hunt down his only son.

For the early birds, there will even be a special musical storytime at 9:30am for preschoolers and early elementary children hosted by Dr. Joyce Gerber, author of Teaching with Heart.  She will model how to make the most out of nursery rhymes using multisensory action-oriented learning experiences.  Later there will be child-friendly readings by the eight other children’s authors in attendance.  Some will even have crafts and special takeaways for those that visit their table.

Other presentations will include panels on writing series, publishing as ebooks and self or small imprint publishing.   There will be short readings by many of the authors from 12:30 to 2pm so potential readers can get a sneak preview.
