CALVERT GARDEN CLUB DONATES

FLOWER PLANTERS AT

CALVERT LIBRARY SOUTHERN BRANCH

Calvert Garden Club has donated two large planters of flowers to welcome library users to the new Calvert Library Southern Branch.  The large cedar planters were purchased and planted with an array of flowering plants this month by Calvert Garden Club members.  Margaret Fahs and Denise Moroney designed and planted the boxes as part of the club’s continued goal of supporting civic organizations in Calvert County.   The planters will continue to be maintained with flowers throughout the season by the garden club and the library. The project is part of the club’s commitment to support the community in many ways from beautifying gardens, civic decorations, memorials, and outreach programs through numerous community organizations.

Master Gardeners, including club members, present master classes on various aspects of gardening at Calvert Library; programs will be scheduled in 2014 at the Southern Branch.  Calvert Library offers numerous gardening books and information on gardening appropriate for the county.

The Calvert Garden Club, founded in 1936, supports other beautifying projects such as the Blue Star Memorial in Solomons and the Christmas Greening decorations at the Calvert County Circuit and District Court Houses and County facilities and buildings in December.  Joyce Fletcher, club president, also notes the club’s participation in the maintenance of the Solomons Riverwalk, Historic Linden and Project Echo Vegetable garden.  For additional information, go to:  www.calvertgardenclub.com.
