It is the time of year when all federal employees are encouraged to give back to their communities via the Combined Federal Campaign.  Calvert Library Foundation has just been added as an approved CFC charity and according to Foundation President Kip AtLee, the timing is perfect. “We are working to raise the funds to provide shelving and furniture for the renovated space that will be the new Southern Branch so being included in the CFC will make it easy for people to contribute.”   Between the bases and Calvert’s proximity the DC-area, there are many federal employees who are advocates of Calvert Library and will be happy to select them to receive their CFC donation.   Library Foundation co-treasurer Emily Gilcrest also happens to be a federal employee and she says, “Obviously I love the library.  My most recent library discovery is that audio books can actually make my commute into the city ‘time-well-spent.’  I am more than happy to have another easy way to support the library I’ve loved since I was a child.”  Ever the fundraiser, Gilcrest adds with a smile, “In case anyone else needs to know, the CFC number for the Calvert Library Foundation is 53532.”

AtLee points out that “the Foundation will take donations from non-federal employees as well.  We are doing very well in our campaign for Southern but we haven’t reached our goal yet and we will soon need those funds. ” According to Patti AtLee, also a Foundation member and yes, married to Kip, “You can even donate online with Paypal through the Foundation website at http://calvertlibraryfoundation.com.”  On the website, you can see that their goal for this capital campaign is $200,000 and there are many ways to make your mark on the library with your donation.  Donors can sponsor areas of the library and have a recognition plaque posted, a great way to be a model for supporting one’s community.  Foundation member, former Library Trustee and current volunteer Martha Grahame has sponsored the Staff Office area.  When asked why she chose that particular area, Grahame responded, “I spend a lot of time with the staff and I know how hard they work.  We talk about how librarians are like ducks…so serene and floating along out in the public area making it all look so easy while underneath (or in the work area) their feet are churning away!  I wanted the staff to know that I appreciate them.”

If you want to know what areas are still available to sponsor, stop by any of the library locations for an updated list or call Library Director Patricia Hofmann at 410-535-0291.
