Calvert Library has some exciting events for gamers coming soon. The fun begins on Saturday, October 27 at 1:00pm with a Smash Bros. Brawl pre-qualifier where winners will move on to compete in the National Online Tournament representing Calvert Library. Saturday, November 3, 2012 is International Games Day and we will hold our annual MarioKart tournament for ages 6-12 at 10:00am followed by the National Smash Finals at 1:00pm. Come to play or come to root for Calvert Library. Just come! Valuable Play-N-Trade gift cards from owner of the Lusby store, Kevin Chronister, will be awarded to the top three players in each tournament.  If Calvert Library wins the International Tournament, Chronister promises a prize as well.

Bring your own controller if you like and costumes are welcome. This tournament is sponsored by Friends of Calvert Library and prizes are provided by Lusby Play-N-Trade. Smash Bros. Brawl is a rated Teen game. Participants under the age of 13 must have a parent or guardian attend and give permission for their participation. Find rules and registration info on our website at calv.lib.md.us.

Why are we gaming at the library?  Well, not only is it fun, but gaming is a form of informational literacy.  According to ilovelibraries.org, gaming is an opportunity for kids to manage several resources at once, develop strategies, predict outcomes, adapt to changes, track statistics and more!   Gaming in the library also provides an opportunity for kids to interact with other kids from the community and for families to play together.

For more information, call the Calvert Library Prince Frederick at 410-535-0291 or 301-855-1862.
