Cinema Cafe call for Volunteers and September movie based on Unbroken (press release)

Are you a movie buff or at least recognize the extra value one can get out of watching a movie with a group of people? And gee…free movie…that’s a good value, especially since Apex Cinema also donates popcorn to the event!  Calvert Library Prince Frederick offers a monthly series of films shown on the big screen every first Wednesday of the month starting at 6pm.  If you have suggestions about what the library should show, let a librarian know.  The library is also seeking volunteers to help run the series.  A volunteer would help select the movie, check for public performance licensing, request a copy of the film from the library, set up the room and introduce the film.  Sometimes the film lends itself to discussion afterwards and sometimes it’s just a great night out.   If interested in supporting the library and community building in this way, please contact Robyn Truslow at 410-535-0291.

In the meantime, on Wednesday, September 2, the Fall series kicks off with the film based on the historical nonfiction best-seller Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.  After a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he's captured by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.  Maybe your teen read this book for AP Literature or needs to watch the movie for AP World History?  Grab dinner beforehand and bring them along!  The movie is 137 minutes long and is PG-13.  For more information, call Robyn Truslow at 410-535-0291.
