FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Get ready to race and rumble with Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. at your library! On Saturday, March 24, 2012, Calvert Library in Prince Frederick will partner with Lusby Play ‘n Trade to offer two Wii gaming tournaments. The first tournament will take place from 10am to 12 noon and will feature Mario Kart for drivers between the ages of 6-12. From 1:30pm to 3:30pm we will hold a tournament for older kids and adults (ages 13 and up) featuring Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
First prize in each tournament is a $50 store credit to Play ‘n Trade in Lusby. The Mario Kart tournament will be single elimination; Super Smash Brothers Brawl will be double elimination. This game is rated for teen audiences because of cartoon violence and crude humor. Details and rules can be found on the Calvert Library website. Bring your own controller if you like!
Why are we gaming at the library? Well, not only is it fun, but gaming is a form of informational literacy. According to ilovelibraries.org, gaming is an opportunity for kids to manage several resources at once, develop strategies, predict outcomes, adapt to changes, track statistics and more! Gaming in the library also provides an opportunity for kids to interact with other kids from the community and for families to play together.
Go to the Calvert Library website (calvert.lib.md.us) for details about rules and format. Registration required. For more information, call the Calvert Library Prince Frederick at 410-535-0291 or 301-855-1862.
