Library Event Focuses on the History of African American Education in Calvert County

Join us on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, for the second in the four-part local history series at Calvert Library. The book Persistence, Perseverance and Progress: History of African American Schools in Calvert County, Maryland, 1865-1965 provides the inspiration for this program. Author Dr. Richlyn Goddard and other local contributors to the book will lead a discussion about African American education in our area. In addition, Harry Wedewer and other individuals involved in the restoration effort will give a presentation about the Old Wallville School, the oldest known standing one-room school for African American children in Calvert County, which has been restored and relocated to Prince Frederick.  The program will be held 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Calvert Library, Prince Frederick. For more information, visit www.calvert.lib.md.us or call Robyn Truslow at 410-535-0291 or 301-855-1862.
