The most recent tragic events in Ferguson, Missouri, Baltimore and other similar situations across the country have rekindled a national conversation about the interaction between the police and the communities they serve. This topic has evoked highly charged verbal and physical confrontations between police and citizens. It has also sparked much discussion and debate within families, among community members and across our nation.
On Thursday May 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., numerous community organizations will gather to talk about the relationship between law enforcement and the citizens in Calvert County. We invite all community members to be part of the conversation!
Join us at the College of Southern Maryland, Prince Frederick Campus, Building B Multi-purpose Room to discuss what can be done to promote a healthy community and strengthen the partnerships necessary to prevent a crisis in police and citizen interaction. Participating organizations include Calvert County Fraternal Order of Police, Calvert County NAACP, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office, Calvert Interfaith Council, Calvert Library, College of Southern Maryland Institutional Equity and Diversity Office, Concerned Black Men, Concerned Black Women, Community Mediation Center of Calvert, Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, Maryland State Police and TRUST.
Law enforcement representatives and others will answer questions and participate in the conversation. Come share your experiences and thoughts to be part of the solution! For more information, call Robyn Truslow at 410-535-0291.
