Calvert Eats Local, a grassroots group that meets at Calvert Library on a monthly basis, is hosting Liz Stoffel on Monday, March 18 at 7:00pm to present an Introduction to Permaculture Design.  Ms. Stoffel will define “Permaculture” and describe its ecological design principles and ethics. She will explain the process of setting up a design on various size properties and some specific elements of gardening that reduce both work and watering. She will also touch on the certification process and on choosing a Permaculture Design Course.

Ms. Stoffel is an environmental educator, writer, permaculture design consultant, Master Gardener, beekeeper, and volunteer. She has a degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Maryland and worked as the Land Manager for the American Chestnut Land Trust in Calvert County from 2005-2011. This position involved stewardship of 3,000 acres on two watersheds on the Chesapeake Bay watershed, working with volunteers on projects such as invasive plant control, water quality monitoring, deer herd management, canoe trip guiding, environmental education, and trail maintenance, among other things.  Ms. Stoffel worked for two other land conservancies prior that.  She has been an organic farmer and an aquaculturist and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sustainable Business and Communities.  She received her Permaculture Design Certificate from Midwest Permaculture.
