Android 101 Workshop at Calvert Library (press release)

Calvert Library and Verizon Wireless are partnering to provide the next workshop in our Lifelong Learning series.  Are you considering the purchase of an Android smartphone or tablet and want to know the basics of how to get started?  Or maybe you have one already and need hints about how to get the most out of your battery life?  “Your Android Phone or Tablet 101” will be offered on Thursday, March 14 at 6:30pm and end at 8:00pm at Calvert Library Prince Frederick.  Bring your device and with expertise provided by Verizon Wireless, we will give you a few pointers.  You will learn the basics such as setting up your email, adding social network accounts, basic hardware functions and a few other helpful tidbits.  The workshop is free.  Please register.  You will also hear about other free workshops offered by Verizon Wireless that will support you in the use of your device.  For more information, call the Calvert Library Prince Frederick at 410-535-0291 or 301-855-1862 or check the website at calvert.lib.md.us.

                One wrong turn deserves another.

 

              On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, join Calvert Library Prince Frederick as we present the gripping and thought-provoking story of what happens one day in New York when a young lawyer and a businessman share a small automobile accident on F.D.R. Drive and their mutual road rage escalates into a feud.   This film is rated R.  Stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck were nominated for film acting awards.

What are you really worth?

 

               On Wednesday, April 3, 2013, join Calvert Library Prince Frederick as we present an interesting and intriguing film about Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane, who is handicapped with the lowest salary constraint in baseball. If he ever wants to win the World Series, Billy must find a competitive advantage. Billy is about to turn baseball on its ear when he uses statistical data to analyze and place value on the players he picks for the team.  This film is rated PG-13 and is one of those rare movies that everyone should like, whether they are sports fans or not.

 

            The movie was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture (2012), Best Actor (Brad Pitt), Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill) and Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay.

Have you ever wondered if your old books are rare, or if they’re worth something? Are you afraid to do anything with that box of old books? Join Calvert Library Fairview Branch for a workshop with information and resources to help determine the value of your old books. Liz Prouty and Richard Due, owners of Second Looks Books in Prince Frederick, will also be giving participants the chance to bring one or two old books for examination.
