Calvert Library to show film based on Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel Gone Girl (press release)

 On Wednesday, May 6, 2015, join Calvert Library Prince Frederick for an exclusive screening of the acclaimed film based on Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel Gone Girl. On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary.  Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion.  Husband-of-the-year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.  With an all-star cast of Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike this film directed by David Fincher is a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller. Manga Otaku Creator's Nights at Calvert Library Twin Beaches Branch

In early 2015, Calvert Library Twin Beaches Branch offered a new attraction, “Manga Otaku Creator’s Nights” for teens and tweens. The response from the public was so overwhelmingly enthusiastic  that we are keeping it all year! On the first Tuesday of every month, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at the Twin Beaches  Branch, comics and manga fans from ages 10 to 17 can come to draw and write their own comics! Artist and illustrator (and Calvert librarian) McNevin Hayes will guide you through the basics of story layout, thumbnails, and character construction.  Japanese style snacks will be provided.  Come to as many or as few as you like!
